Well, I was reading the 15th November 2009 Straits Times Papers and I came across one of the articles regarding the speeches given by Japanese President Hatoyama Yukio at the APEC 2009 Singapore.

I managed to find the article link here.

I will copy and paste the article below just in case it is deleted in the future. However, please note that all copyrights belongs to the Straits Times Holding.

Shaping the future

How about a ship of mercy?

On the second day of the Apec CEO Summit, world and business leaders continued to trade ideas on resisting protectionism and how the Asia-Pacific region can be better integrated. A look at some of the key issues:

By Goh Sui Noi

Apec can keep itself relevant by expanding beyond economics to the area of human security, Japan’s Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama said yesterday.

‘We need to build the future Apec with human security in mind,’ he told business leaders at the close of the CEO Summit, pointing to the natural disasters that hit the region from time to time.

He suggested the creation of a ship of fraternity that would travel to areas of disaster in the region to render medical and other aid. He added that non-governmental organisations could be brought into this project, as well as young people.

Such a ship could be part of an endeavour to encourage cooperation among young people of the region. ‘The future of Apec is in young people cooperating with each other beyond borders,’ he noted.

Another area of cooperation, he suggested, was in sustainable economic growth. ‘We need to regard the environment importantly and we need to regard the environment as industry as well,’ he said, giving examples such as electric cars and smart energy grids.

‘These (new ideas) should be shared broadly in this region and be built into a new growth strategy,’ he urged.

Importantly, Apec should continue to work towards the realisation of a free trade area. ‘We need to create a system that will advance regional economic integration that will also put in place a seamless business environment,’ he said.

In building such a system, it could show the way for the Group of 20 (G-20) international economic forum and the world.

‘I believe that Apec should put in place firmly desirable regional economic cooperation and advocate that on the world stage at G-20 and lead the world,’ he said.

I personally liked the idea that President Yukio Hatoyama proposed and I seriously hoped that it will be put to action.

Advantages

  1. Imagine that if immediate help can be dispatched to the natural disasters zones at the quickest time possible with the approval of all respective countries, it will make a huge difference to all affected victims who can received help like clean water, food and temporary shelter. It will also reduce the number of people who are injured and the number of deaths.
  2. It can help in the sea patrol to prevent sea pirates from attacking oil tanker ships, cruise ships etc.
  3. It will encourage cooperation among young people of the countries in APEC and since young people are the future leaders of the countries, having friendship as the basis of the relationships will reduce unnecessary tensions and beneficial to all.

Do you always think of trying a product before making a decision to buy it? Here is your chance to try products for free?

Visit this website.

Fr3b is a Singapore website which offers product samples for Singaporeans, both males and females, to try before buying.

I personally find it a useful website for prospective consumers to try new and existing products like perfumes, acne creams, facial products like cleansers and facial masks, hair shampoos, hair conditioners, sanitary napkins, contact lens solution, make up etc.

I have just gotten my first 3 samples of perfume, acne gel and muscle pain reliever gel 2 days ago and are test-using the products now.

You might find it weird that the product samples are given for free. There is only 1 catch, you have to write a review for the product you sample and by doing so, you are awarded points to redeem another product sample. That is so easy right? Oh you have to pay a minimal postage fee for the delivery of the product samples to your house. In my case, it is only SGD$1.80.

What are the advantages of the website?

  • Firstly, it saves you the hassle of going from store to store to request for the product samples you want but, wait a minute, you might not be able to get any samples at all. =( Well, you decide to fork money out to buy the product but alas, the product is not suitable for your skin and you just wasted your hard earned money.
  • Secondly, your family and friends might tell you that the particular product they are using is good but is it good for you?
  • Thirdly, some sales assistants can be really annoying and pesky and as long as you want some samples, you have to bear with them. Yeah, tough luck I know.

Well, doesn’t everyone loves free samples? So what are you waiting for? Visit Fr3b now.

I came across this song some weeks ago on Youtube and it interest me enough to search for information on the song and its singer.

手紙 ~拝啓 十五の君へ~ (Tegami ~Haikei Juugo no kimi he~) which literally translate to Letter ~To Dear 15 Years Old You~ is a song by Angela Aki who is also known as アンジェラ・アキ in Japan.

I think anyone who has listen to this song before will agree with me that it is a beautiful and touching song sang by Angela Aki whose powerful vocals does justice to the song.

This song about a 15 year old writing to her future self and her future self replying back after reading the letter.

Below is the lyrics of the song in Japanese, Romaji and Englih Translation. I take no credit in the translation.

Keep on believing

Dear you,
Who’s reading this letter
Where are you and what are you doing now?

For me who’s 15 years old
There are seeds of worries I can’t tell anyone

If it’s a letter addressed to my future self,
Surely I can confide truely to myself

Now, it seems that I’m about to be defeated and cry
For someone who’s seemingly about to disappear
Whose words should I believe in?
This one-and-only heart has been broken so many times
In the midst of this pain, I live the present

Dear you,
Thank you
I have something to tell the 15-year-old you

If you continue asking what and where you should be going
You’ll be able to see the answer

The rough seas of youth may be tough
But row your boat of dreams on
Towards the shores of tomorrow

Now, please don’t be defeated and please don’t shed a tear
During these times when you’re seemingly about to disappear
Just believe in your own voice
For me as an adult, there are sleepless nights when I’m hurt
But I’m living the bittersweet present

There’s meaning to everything in life
So build your dreams without fear
Keep on believing

Seems like I’m about to be defeated and cry
For someone who’s seemingly about to disappear
Whose words should I believe in?

Please don’t be defeated and please don’t shed a tear
During these times when you’re seemingly about to disappear
Just believe in your own voice

No matter era we’re in
There’s no running away from sorrow
So show your smile, and go on living the present
Go on living the present

Dear you,
Who’s reading this letter
I wish you happiness

Well, it is a good song, isn’t it? Just a little information about Angela Aki – she is a singer-songwriter who composes all the songs she sings herself. Talk about big talent here.
